Who are we
Two of Australia's most decorated activists, Ronni Kahn of food rescue charity OzHarvest and Jon Dee of action group Do Something, have joined forces to create a campaign to Feed Sydney this winter. The Feed Sydney campaign will focus on the many thousands of hungry people in Sydney and NSW and the key issues of food poverty, food waste and food recovery.

OzHarvest

OzHarvest is a non-denominational charity that rescues excess food which would otherwise be discarded. This excess food is distributed to charities supporting the vulnerable in Sydney and Canberra.

OzHarvest was founded in November 2004. We began with one van and delivered 4,000 meals in our first month of operations. Currently OzHarvest delivers 100, 000 meals per month with a fleet of six vans.

OzHarvest believes that good food should not go to waste. In fact, by distributing it to those in need, we turn excess food into a resource and save thousands of kilograms of food from being dumped as landfill each year.

Food is generously donated by those with excess. By distributing this food to various charities, we assist them to better and more efficiently address the underlying social problems in our society. With this support charities are able to redirect funding to programs assisting those who are disadvantaged or at risk. OzHarvest provides this service at no cost to food donors and recipients.

Our team of qualified and dedicated staff and volunteers are passionate about making a positive difference to the thousands of lives we touch.

Do Something

Do Something is a new type of not-for-profit organisation that works with business, government and the community to create and promote positive social and environmental change.

Rather than talk about the problems, we seek to "do something". We identify problems and then find answers that achieve measurable benefits for the environment, community and Australian business.

One of Do Something's most successful campaigns is FoodWise www.foodwise.com.au which aims to reduce the 3 million tonnes of good food worth $5.2 billion wasted each year in Australia, much of which ends up rotting in landfill producing the potent greenhouse gas methane. By working with our partner food charities, we want with divert as much as possible of this good food to the vulnerable in the community who would otherwise go hungry.
